Strengthening Ties, Expanding Trade: Turkish Ambassador’s Landmark Visit to Douala

February 7, 2025

The official visit of H.E. Volkan Öskiper, Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon, to Douala marked a significant step in strengthening Türkiye-Cameroon diplomatic and economic relations. Focused on enhancing trade, investment, and bilateral cooperation, the visit featured high-level meetings with government officials, business leaders, and Turkish entrepreneurs operating in Cameroon. A Day of High-Level Engagements

1. Courtesy Visit to the Governor of the Littoral Region

The Ambassador’s visit began with a meeting with Governor Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, where he expressed his appreciation for this important first stop. Acknowledging the significant contributions of Turkish companies to Cameroon’s infrastructure, he cited the Japoma Stadium, an architectural marvel constructed by Yenigün A.Ş., as a testament to Türkiye’s expertise.

In a lighthearted moment, H.E. Öskiper proposed a friendly football match between Turkish and Cameroonian teams, emphasizing the spirit of cooperation. The Governor welcomed the idea, with both sides humorously agreeing that the match should end in a draw—symbolizing the lasting friendship between the two nations.

2. Strengthening Regional Cooperation

The Ambassador proceeded to a meeting with Mr. Polycarpe Banlog, President of the Littoral Regional Council, where discussions focused on infrastructure development and investment opportunities. It was agreed that Turkish investors, particularly in the construction and infrastructure sectors, will visit Cameroon in the coming months to explore collaborative projects.

3. Engaging the Private Sector – Meeting with the Chamber of Commerce

During his meeting with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Crafts (CCIMA), priority investment areas were outlined, highlighting Turkish banks, insurance companies, road construction firms, and renewable energy projects (biomass) as immediate opportunities.

To drive progress, it was agreed that sideline meetings will be organized during the upcoming Joint Economic Forum, scheduled for May 5-7, where practical steps to implement these projects will be discussed.
