Turkish Red Crescent Donates 7.5 Tons of Emergency Relief Supplies to Cameroon Red Cross in Yaoundé

The national headquarters of the Cameroon Red Cross in Yaoundé has hosted the official handover of a 7.5-ton humanitarian shipment from the Turkish Red Crescent, including emergency tents, kitchen utensils and clothing. The event brought together the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Volkan Öskiper; representatives of the IFRC, senior officials of the Cameroon Red Cross and local authorities.

This donation forms part of a concrete cooperation framework defined after a high-level Turkish Red Crescent delegation visit to Yaoundé in April 2025, which helped strengthen humanitarian ties between the two National Societies. 

The ceremony opened with the welcome and seating of guests, followed by the national anthems of Türkiye and Cameroon and introductory remarks. 

Official speeches from the Turkish Ambassador, the IFRC and the Cameroon Red Cross leadership underscored the role of international partnerships in reinforcing national emergency response systems and supporting vulnerable communities across Cameroon.

A presentation by the Cameroon Red Cross detailed the emergency tents and other relief materials received, explaining their capacity, planned uses and the operational contexts in which they will be deployed. 

The presentation emphasized that these assets comply with international shelter standards and will significantly boost preparedness for disaster response and humanitarian emergencies, particularly in regions most exposed to crises.

The event reached its peak during the formal handover segment, which included the symbolic signing of the handover report and a series of official photos bringing together the Cameroon Red Cross, the Turkish Ambassador, the IFRC and local authorities. 

Proceedings concluded with a short press briefing, allowing media representatives to engage with partners and share the key messages with the wider public.

Following the handover, the Cameroon Red Cross and the IFRC will transport the relief items to their final destination in Cameroon’s Far North region, where they will support vulnerable communities and emergency operations. 

Through this multi-ton operation, the Turkish Red Crescent and the Cameroon Red Cross reaffirm their shared commitment to protecting lives, assisting vulnerable people and strengthening the operational readiness of humanitarian actors in Cameroon.
