A Taste of Türkiye in Douala: Diplomacy, Tradition, and Gastronomy at the 4th Turkish Cuisine Week

A Night of Elegance, Prestige, and Cultural Diplomacy at Krystal Palace Hotel

On Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, the city of Douala transformed into a distinguished crossroads of cultures, diplomacy, and gastronomy as it hosted the 4th Edition of Turkish Cuisine Week at the prestigious Krystal Palace Hotel.

This high-profile evening, held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency Volkan Öskiper, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Cameroon, brought together an exceptional array of personalities from across Cameroon and beyond.

Among the foremost dignitaries in attendance were:

  • H.E. Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, Governor of the Littoral Region
  • Hon. Polycarpe Banlog, President of the Littoral Regional Council
  • Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, Super Mayor of the City of Douala
  • A prominent representation of traditional authorities and custodians of Cameroon's rich heritage

The presence of these eminent figures reaffirmed Douala’s standing as a strategic and cultural hub, reinforcing the event’s stature on both the national and international scene.

Sponsored by Access Bank Cameroon, this edition highlighted the financial institution’s firm commitment to fostering cultural diplomacy and economic cooperation. Mr. Ellis Nzo Asu, CEO of Access Bank Cameroon, delivered an insightful sponsor’s address, emphasizing the pivotal role of cross-cultural engagements in strengthening bilateral ties.

The evening also welcomed an elite gathering of Cameroon’s top business personalities, including leaders from the Douala Port Authority, Camwater, ENEO, CNCC, Dangote Cameroon, and numerous other institutions and private sector actors. Their participation underlined the growing nexus between business, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.

Representing the Cameroon Türkiye Business Council (CTBC) was Senator Nfon Ekoko Mukete, CTBC President and Honorary Consul of Türkiye, accompanied by board members Henriette Noutchougouin, Ebenezer Essoka, and Hon. Hamadou Sali.

Guests were treated to an authentic four-course Turkish gastronomic experience, masterfully curated by Chef Nestor Edimo. Each course — from traditional mezzes to slow-braised lamb — was introduced with captivating storytelling that connected every dish to Türkiye’s rich culinary heritage.

The evening’s ambiance was elevated by the presence of representatives from the Turkish business community in Cameroon, members of the diplomatic corps from the USA, Namibia, and other friendly nations, adding a geopolitical and multicultural dimension to this already vibrant event.

In his remarks, Ambassador Volkan Öskiper expressed his gratitude for the city’s enduring hospitality and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to deepening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with Cameroon, with Douala continuing to hold a place of strategic and sentimental importance in this dynamic partnership.

The event stood not only as a feast for the senses but as a testament to the power of gastronomy as a tool for diplomacy, dialogue, and friendship.
