Cameroon gives over 600 Million FCFA in support to Türkiye as it braves its way from the rubble of a devasting earthquake

The news of the earthquake that hit Türkiye and Syria massively touched the Cameroon community. This was seen in the reactions to assist from the business community.

The Cameroon Türkiye Business Council and friends of Türkiye showed their empathy by contributing a little over FCFA 12 Million which was handed over to Türkiye through the Embassy of Türkiye in Yaounde.

And now just yesterday, April 11th, the Head of State of the Republic of Cameroon, H.E Paul Biya handed over a check of USD 1 Million. 

Below is an excerpt which details briefly how we (Cameroon and Türkiye) demonstrated this gesture of togetherness.

Earthquake in Türkiye 🇹🇷 :

“H.E. President Paul Biya offers one million US Dollars ($1,000,000 USD) Six weeks after the violent earthquake which struck simultaneously Türkiye and Syria. 

The President of the Republic of Cameroon; Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya dispatched to the Turkish capital, the Minister of Territorial Administration (MINAT); Atanga Nji Paul for this special mission.  

In addition to renewing the condolences of the Head of State and the compassion of the entire Cameroonian nation to this bruised friendly Country, the MINAT also brought the support of H.E. President Paul Biya to the reconstruction efforts undertaken by the Turkish authorities. 

This was in the form of a cheque for one million US Dollars equivalent to 602 million FCFA.  The cheque was officially presented in Ankara on Tuesday April 11th 2023 evening to the Türkiye 🇹🇷 Minister of the Interior, Süleyman Soylu, who expressed gratitude of his Country for this mark of solidarity.”

In the room, during this significant moment was H.E Victor Tchachouwo, Ambasador of the Republic of Cameroon to the Republic of Türkiye in Ankara.

The entire Cameroon community mourns with Türkiye at this trying time of reconstruction.
