January 19, 2022

In line with the vision of increasing trade and investment between Türkiye and Africa, the Ambassador of Türkiye in Yaounde – Cameroon H.E Volkan ISIKCI accompanied by The Founder and CEO of Istanbul Restaurant, Founder and CEO of Istanbul Mobilier, Vice President and Director of Türkiye Maarif Foundation visited the Central African Republic last week to lay down strategic ground work for their plans of Action.

Worthy of note is that, besides running 6 campuses in Cameroon (Two in Yaoundé, Douala and Ngoundere each) the Türkiye Maarif Foundation has a massive global footprint. They are in 47 countries, with more than 400 schools tending to about 50,000 students across the world. It is therefore no surprise they made this visit to the Central African Republic.

It was 5 intense days of win-win meetings with various Ministers and ultimately the President of the Central African Republic.

The only thing to do when your business is doing well is to expand. It is therefore no wonder these successful Turkish businesses in Cameroon proceeded to do some field work and findings in CAR.

Upon their return, they were warmly welcomed by the Türkiye Honorary Consulate in Douala and the Cameroon Türkiye Business Council at the Douala International Airport.

A great surprise was prepared for them by one of the maiden Turkish Companies to plant themselves in Cameroon. Talk about Mini Türkiye in Douala. MedCem, the first Turkish Cement Manufacturer in Cameroon received the delegation and led them through a very refreshing itinerary which began with a thorough site visit of the entire MedCem premises led by Ismail Hakan TATLISU – General Manager of MedCem Cameroon. He spared no details as he showed off all nooks and crannies of MedCem - The transformation, control, testing and laboratory units of the factory. We also got a chance to see the expansion plans as the demand only continues to increase for MedCem cement. MedCem is 60% owned by Medcem Global headquartered in Türkiye and 40% owend by their Cameroonian partner Quiferou Group.

We were then treated to a 4-course spread of Turkish cuisine. Worthy of note is the fact that MedCem has a Turkish chef at the company canteen who ensures all staff – Cameroonian get to taste Turkish delights every now and then and Turkish do not miss home too much.

We returned to the Consulate to discuss more about Maarif plans for Cameroon and the rest of Africa, Istanbul Restaurant and Istanbul Mobilier’s plan for expansion to Douala and how the CTBC can facilitate these for them.

As you know, increasing our members’ business footprint is why we exist. MedCem is a member of the CTBC and continues to enjoy the benefits of her membership. Join CTBC today to benefit from all of these opportunities.
